Ever wondered why you’re left out of the important discussions❓…this could be the reason 👇🏻
Commercial decisions are rarely, if ever, made based on a budget.
Commercial decisions are based on:
✅ what’s happening in the market NOW, not what we budgeted for
✅ what our customers want NOW, not what we budgeted for
✅ what our competitors are doing NOW, not what we budgeted for
✅ raw material prices NOW, not what we budgeted for
✅ FX rates NOW, not what we budgeted for
The least commercial thing you can ever say:
“It’s not in the budget”
Budgets are mainly for shareholders and banks, and high-level resource planning.
So instead of saying:
❌ it’s not in the budget
Say:
✅ what’s the commercial objective and return
If it’s good it’ll be self-funding any way.
And remember:
➡️ just because it’s in the budget, doesn’t mean we should spend it.
➡️ and just because it’s not in the budget, doesn’t mean we should NOT spend it.
